I have spent much of my life not calling myself an artist. I have always loved creating art, but not in the obvious ways. Among other roles (including public school science teacher), I have worked as a landscape designer, graphic designer and website developer. I learned most of what I know about color theory in each of those roles. I had no idea I would later be using them in my paintings and mosaics.
I often enjoy making something ordinary into something extraordinary – whether it’s a bowl of noodles or a mug of coffee. I spend long moments contemplating the colors I use and the appropriate materials for the most basic of shapes. Ultimately, I create what moves me and I’m having a wonderful adventure keeping my mind open to whatever new ideas I will discover.
Always an inspiration to me is my loving husband who continually supports and encourages my passion for the arts. My four children who are also creative – in both heart and mind - are muses to me and consistently bring color to my life.
“Follow the stream, have faith in its course. It will go its own way, meandering here, trickling there. It will find the grooves, the cracks, the crevices. Just follow it. Never let it out of your sight. It will take you.” - Sheng-yen
